Blockchain is a decentralized digital ledger technology that allows data to be recorded securely, transparently, and immutably across a network of computers. Unlike traditional databases controlled by a single authority, blockchain distributes records, called “blocks,” across many participants, known as “nodes.” Each block contains a set of transactions, a timestamp, and a cryptographic link to the previous block, forming a continuous “chain.” This structure makes tampering extremely difficult, since altering one block would require changing every subsequent block across the entire network.
